Manchester United are already eyeing potential managers for the hot seat at Old Trafford after parting ways with Ruben Amorim on Monday.
The Portuguese head coach’s nightmare reign at the Theatre of Dreams saw him win just 38.10% of his games in charge, with the club famously finishing 15th in the Premier League last season.
While INEOS backed the former Sporting manager after that disastrous season, their patience ran out at the turn of the year. Speculation is rife over Amorim’s successor, with several candidates already tipped for the job.
One name that has been linked with the Premier League giants for ages is former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane was already a Los Blancos legend when he took charge of the senior side in January 2016, after a brief stint with Real Madrid Castilla.
Zizou went on to further etch himself into glory, famously winning three consecutive Champions League trophies among a host of other silverware.
During his first stint at the Santiago Bernabeu, the legendary Frenchman managed a 70.47% win ratio. While his second tenure with the LaLiga giants was not as successful, he still won another LaLiga title and won 60.53% of his games.

Zidane’s Midas touch has enticed United over the years, although the opportunity has not arisen so far. Amorim’s abrupt departure has sparked those rumours back to life, and acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the matter.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano rubbished talks of Zidane’s possible arrival at the Theatre of Dreams. He said: “I already saw some rumours in the English media saying Zinedine Zidane could be a candidate.”
“Guys, Zidane is always linked with the Man Utd job but remember what I keep telling you on Zidane. He has a verbal agreement to become the new French national team head coach after the World Cup to replace Didier Deschamps. So at this moment I’m not aware of any concrete contact with Zidane.”
Zidane’s name has been linked with United for so long that the possibility of him taking charge at Old Trafford look far-fetched. As such, fans are unlikely to be too disappointed with this update.
INEOS could look at managers with Premier League experience to get the Red Devils out of troubled waters. While that would further rule Zidane out, there are still plenty of options apart from the mercurial Frenchman. However, after years of managerial turmoil, fans will hope that the club can finally get it right this year.
