Manchester United ended Crystal Palace’s 12-game unbeaten run at Selhurst Park with a brilliant come-from-behind 2-1 win on Sunday.

It was the hosts who took the lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta, and at that point, it seemed like the visitors were the ones who had played in midweek and hence, looked tired.

The lethargy was shocking to see, especially considering their dismal defeat to 10-men Everton last week. Ruben Amorim must have gone berserk at half-time as the Red Devils did emerge energised after the break.

It took the 20-time English league champions eight minutes to respond, with Joshua Zirkzee scoring a smashing equaliser from a tight angle.

Zirkzee sends clear message to Amorim

The Dutchman started for only the second time this season, and looked rusty in the opening 45 minutes, just like he did against the Toffees.

But his sharp movement from Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick, and his excellent finish showed he can make a difference when called upon, especially in Benjamin Sesko’s absence.

The ex-Bologna ace has been linked with a January exit, but with displays like this, Amorim might just fight a bit harder to keep him at the club.

The second came nine minutes later, from a quick set-piece routine that caught Dean Henderson off guard in the Palace goal.

Mount stepped up when it mattered

He was setting up his wall, expecting Fernandes to strike. The skipper passed to Mount instead, who smashed it low and hard into the goal.

The Englishman started after four games, and once again, showed Amorim that he has more options than just sticking to his summer signings, now that Matheus Cunha is injured.

Sesko is out till mid-December, while the Old Trafford side will lose Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, and Noussair Mazraoui at the same time due to their AFCON commitments.

It will be a huge blow in attack, but Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee sent a message to the head coach that they are ready to fill the void.
