Benfica have loaned Tiago Gouveia to Gençlerbirligi for one season. According to Glorioso 1904, the Seixal-reared winger was unveiled on Thursday by the Ankara club.

The 25-year-old travelled to Türkiye's capital with Benfica's permission, completed medical tests, then signed the paperwork. The deal includes an option to buy set at around three million euros.

The switch returns him to the international stage and offers a route to more consistent game time. He played for Nice in France last season.

He did not have immediate room among Marco Silva's preferred attacking options at Benfica. In that context, the loan offers a chance to gain minutes and greater prominence.

This was not his only possibility in this window. Gouveia was close to joining Atlas, where Andoni Zubizarreta is sporting director, but the move collapsed due to a last-minute demand.
