According to Foot Mercato and Mohamed Toubache-Ter, FC Zürich defender Bećir Omeragić (21) is set to join Ligue 1 side Montpellier on a free transfer this summer.
Omeragić, a Swiss international has reached the end of his contract at Zürich, where he joined on a free transfer in 2018. According to Foot Mercato, Hoffenheim, Augsburg, Burnley and Braga were also interested in the Swiss defender, but it was ultimately Montpellier, who are all but guaranteed to be competing in the French top flight next season, who are set to win the race.
Omeragić’s preference was for a move to Ligue 1, and he was in fact linked with a move to French rivals Olympique de Marseille last summer, although the move never materialised.
The Swiss defender, who has played four times for the national team, is naturally a centre-back, but can play as a number six, or at right-back. Arriving on a free, he is set to sign a four-year deal with Montpellier.
