FIFA gives green light for Iraq

While the war in the Middle East is far from over, preparations for some national teams ahead of the 2026 World Cup are being disrupted. According to Arab News, the Iraqi Football Federation requested that FIFA postpone its intercontinental play-off scheduled for March 31 against the winner of Bolivia vs Suriname.
However, the world football governing body has denied the request. The plea was rejected. In an official statement, the federation confirmed that both FIFA and the Asian Confederation were made aware of the situation, as the Lions of Mesopotamia now face uncertainty heading into this crucial match-up set to take place in Mexico.
The closure of airspace is specifically preventing coach Graham Arnold from leaving the United Arab Emirates, while several embassies remain shut, making it difficult for certain players and staff members to obtain visas.
