An insight into the difference in distance covered by the respective squads at Real Madrid and Arsenal in their Champions League tie has on Thursday been provided.

Real and Arsenal are of course fresh off locking horns in a high-profile continental clash.

After the latter romped to a 3-0 first-leg victory in north London last week, Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos welcomed Arsenal to Spain’s capital for the return leg on Wednesday night.

When all was said and done, though, despite widespread chatter surrounding another Real Madrid ‘remontada’, the reigning European holders were condemned to another defeat, on this occasion by two goals to one.

And as alluded to above, if the running statistics are anything to go by, then as much should not have come as a major surprise.

As revealed by Marca, after Mikel Arteta’s Gunners collectively covered a hefty 12.7km more than their Real Madrid counterparts at The Emirates, Arsenal again dominated the running stats at the Bernabéu.

With another 8.5km more distance under their belts than their hosts in Spain, Arsenal, over the course of the two legs, ran a total of 21.2km more than Real.
