The Scotland youth international is expected to seek more consistent game time reminding himself to the national set-up, with an eye on forcing his way into Steve Clarke’s plans ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Liam Morrison came through the academy ranks at Celtic before securing a high-profile switch to Bayern Munich in 2019 while still in his teens. Opportunities proved limited in Germany, prompting a return to Britain, where he signed for QPR last summer after a productive loan stint with Wigan Athletic in the 2023/24 season.

Morrison has featured 12 times in all competitions this season, following 19 appearances during the previous campaign.

Aberdeen’s interest remembers amid defensive disruption, with Alfie Dorrington having been recalled by Tottenham Hotspur and Gavin Molloy sidelined through injury.

Director of football Lutz Pfannenstiel has already strengthened Peter Leven’s interim squad by securing the loan signing of Rangers midfielder Lyall Cameron until the end of the season. Further additions are expected as the Dons continue their recruitment drive while also stepping up the search for a permanent successor to former cup-winning manager Jimmy Thelin.

The Hoops boss recently signalled his desire to strengthen the squad following the Scottish Cup victory over Auchinleck Talbot, expressing optimism that fresh faces should be secured before this weekend’s crucial Premiership showdown with Hearts.

Discussions are understood to centre on refining a shortlist of targets, reviewing scouting reports and identifying which deals can be progressed quickly.

With time tight ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table encounter, Celtic are expected to move decisively once priorities are agreed, as the club looks to add depth and quality to O’Neill’s options for the run-in.
