AC Milan have moved ahead in the race for Lazio defender Mario Gila after agreeing personal terms, according to The Laziali.

The 25-year-old has one year left on his deal and does not plan to renew. Lazio have set a €30 million price, with Real Madrid due 50% of any profit the Biancocelesti make.

Napoli made the first concrete move, reaching personal terms with Gila’s agent Alejandro Camano, but their bid did not meet Claudio Lotito’s valuation.

Atalanta later offered €22 million plus €3 million and made headway with Lazio, yet they could not convince the player.

Milan launched a late blitz over the past 24 hours, with the agreement understood to envisage a five-year contract worth €5 million net per season.

New head coach Ruben Amorim is said to have played a key role, being personally involved in discussions.

Milan must still agree a fee with Lazio and are reportedly prepared to satisfy Lotito. Talks between the clubs are expected to begin between Monday and Tuesday.
