Luka Modric announced last month that he will be leaving Real Madrid this summer after not being offered a contract extension by the club.
The 39-year-old icon’s contract expires on June 30, but there is an agreement for him to carry on playing until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup, following which he will bid goodbye to the club after 13 years.
Despite his age, Modric has shown he remains capable of being a valuable player at the highest level and as such, there was never going to be a shortage of suitors for him.
And over the past day or so, AC Milan have positioned themselves as a leading contender to sign him.
In fact, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now reports that AC Milan are now confident of closing the deal to sign Luka Modric by tomorrow itself.

The 39-year-old has reportedly already given his ‘yes’ to a one-year contract offer from the Italian heavyweights, who have appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager.
As such, the confidence is high that the Croatian international’s signing can be finalised as early as tomorrow, although he will only arrive after the Club World Cup.
Modric already said goodbye to the Santiago Bernabeu following Real Madrid’s last La Liga game of the season against Real Sociedad.
Now, he will be hoping to bring down the curtains on his 13-year successful stint at the club by winning the FIFA Club World Cup.
Once that is done, it appears that Modric will be headed to Italy, with AC Milan set to become his next home.
