According to SportItalia, as relayed by SPORT, AC Milan are exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Italian giants have been struggling to find consistency in front of goal, prompting head coach Massimiliano Allegri to look for an experienced centre-forward who can bring both goals and leadership.

And at the top of his wishlist sits Lewandowski, a player admired across Europe for his professionalism and finishing ability.

January move next to impossible

While Milan are eager to make a move, the report adds that such an operation in January appears highly complicated.

Lewandowski remains determined to honour his contract with Barcelona, and the Catalan club, already restricted by Financial Fair Play regulations, would struggle to sign a replacement during the winter market.

For that reason, Milan’s realistic option would be to revisit the matter next summer.

It is also understood that Milan officials have already met with Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, to discuss potential scenarios.

They are considering a deal similar to the one that brought Luka Modric, meaning they want Lewandowski on a free transfer.

What does Lewandowski want?

For his part, Lewandowski has made it clear to Barcelona that his preference is to stay for at least another year.

He is even willing to take a pay cut and accept a more secondary role within Hansi Flick’s setup.

However, both parties have agreed to revisit the situation at the end of the season before making any definitive decisions.

Should Barcelona decide against extending his stay, Lewandowski will begin evaluating new offers, with Milan emerging as one of the most attractive options.

The Polish striker wants to continue competing at the top level in Europe for at least one more season.
