AC Milan are exploring a move for Mario Gila and aim to tempt the Lazio defender with a sizeable pay rise.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan have owner Gerry Cardinale’s approval and would table a four-year deal worth €3 million net plus bonuses, roughly tripling his current pay.

Gila has emerged as one of Serie A’s standout centre-backs. His contract runs to June 2027 and there are signs of a renewal on the horizon, yet a summer exit remains possible.

He has been linked across Italy and Europe in recent weeks, with Milan viewed as the most determined suitor. Inside the club he counts admirers including sporting director Igli Tare and head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who views him as the ideal profile to strengthen his backline.

Milan could reduce costs via the Growth Decree, abolished in 2024 but still applicable in his case as it was in force when he arrived in Italy. The measure allows clubs to save 50% of taxes on wages for signings from abroad.

The main hurdle is agreement with Lazio, with president Claudio Lotito expected to start at €30 million. That figure is seen as steep for a player running on an expiring contract, especially with Real Madrid owed 50% of any fee.

Club-to-club talks are set to be handled directly by Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani, who is known for smooth negotiating.
