Adonis Frías has re-established himself at Santos under Cuca after stepping in for the injured Luan Peres, scoring in successive games and sharpening the fight for a starting spot.
According to Globo.com, Luan Peres, usually alongside Lucas Veríssimo, fractured the fourth metacarpal in his left hand. He was left out against Bragantino in the Brasileirão and Coritiba in the Copa do Brasil to aid treatment and protect the area.
Cuca turned to Frías as cover and the centre-back delivered, strengthening his claim for a regular role.
The Argentine had been a starter under Juan Pablo Vojvoda. After Cuca and Lucas Veríssimo arrived, he lost his place, featuring only once in the first 12 matches of the current regime, a start in the draw with Recoleta (PAR) in the Copa Sudamericana’s second round.
In that period, Luan Peres settled alongside Lucas Veríssimo, while youngster João Ananias started against Bahia in the Brasileirão and the return meeting with Recoleta (PAR) in the Copa Sudamericana.
For Sunday’s Brasileirão match against Coritiba, Cuca should have Luan Peres back. The defender has trained with protection on his left hand, although Frías could be retained.
