Novo Horizonte will have a Paulistão finalist again after 36 years as Novorizontino beat Corinthians 1-0 on Saturday in Novo Horizonte to reach the decider.
According to Globo.com, the original Grêmio Esportivo Novorizontino was dissolved in the late 1990s and the current club was founded in 2010. Though separate entities, they share a near-identical crest, the same colours and the Jorge Ismael de Biasi stadium.
This run already surpasses 2024, when Novorizontino were stopped in the semi-finals by eventual champions Palmeiras.
The city’s previous appearance in a Paulistão final came in 1990, when Grêmio Esportivo Novorizontino reached the so-called final caipira against Bragantino, who won in extra time.
