This off-season has been one of the busiest summers in recent memory. The European Championships and Copa America were the focus of the football world for the majority of the summer. The transfer window has also started to come to life in recent weeks. But this weekend will finally see Manchester City begin their 24/25 season. After a hectic off-season, the marathon is set to begin for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Up first for Manchester City is this weekend’s FA Community Shield clash against Manchester United on Saturday. The Premier League champions will take on last season’s FA Cup winners at Wembley. While the Community Shield is generally considered a glorified friendly it is an opportunity for the world champions to begin the new season with a win over their arch-rivals. Bragging rights and the opportunity to lay down a marker are on offer for Pep Guardiola’s side.

After Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States, it will be interesting to see what starting lineup goes with on Saturday. Players such as Oscar Bobb, James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly impressed during City’s pre-season friendlies. Erling Haaland looks to be ready for the new season after scoring a hat trick during City’s 4-2 friendly win over Chelsea. A host of City’s stars who were in action during the European Championships and Copa America have also returned to training this week. Will Pep Guardiola pick his strongest available lineup or play several of City’s youngsters? That appears to be the question heading into Saturday’s match. It is good to finally ponder such scenarios after the off-season.
