Leeds and Hull are likely to hold talks over Joe Gelhardt’s future, with agent Stephen Hunt saying he thinks the 24-year-old can be effective in the Premier League if a permanent switch happens.
Gelhardt has spent 18 months on loan at Hull across two spells, first in the second half of last season then again this season. He scored 15 goals in 42 games as the Tigers went up via a play-off final win over Middlesbrough.
At Leeds he managed six starts and 29 substitute appearances in the top flight, though he did hit a late winner against Norwich City in March 2022 that aided survival.
"Joe Gelhardt, I think he's a very, very good player. I think he can play in the Premier League. He never really had that opportunity."
He was speaking on the 1904 Club podcast.
"He had a flash with it with Leeds. I think he's ready to play in the Premier League, and he can be effective. You look at Jarrod Bowen, who's a left-footed right-winger who's scored goals in the Premier League."
Hull have no option to buy in his loan, a consequence of last summer’s EFL transfer embargo. With that now due to be lifted, any fee would need to be negotiated.
Leeds were looking for £3-4m last year and could seek more after his Championship campaign. They paid £1m to Wigan in 2020 and his Elland Road contract runs to next summer.
