Barcelona will be heading into the second international break of the season after suffering a disastrous 4-1 defeat to Sevilla.

It was a poor performance highlighted by a series of defensive errors and a lack of attacking impetus. On the flip side, Sevilla did extremely well, with their aggressive style of play overcoming the Barcelona game, as highlighted by Hansi Flick himself.

One of the stars for Sevilla in this 4-1 win was none other than former Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez, who scored the opener by converting a penalty.

What was interesting, however, was the way the former Arsenal man celebrated the goal, even though the winger had told the press he wouldn’t celebrate if he scored against Barcelona.

Why did Alexis Sanchez celebrate?

Speaking to the media after the game, Sanchez clarified why he decided to celebrate after scoring against Barcelona.

The veteran winger admitted that even though he didn’t plan on celebrating, emotion got the better of him.

“I had said I wouldn’t celebrate, but sometimes the excitement overcomes me, and the desire drives me to do so. In truth, I hold a great deal of love for Barcelona,” he said (h/t Zona Mixta) after the game.

Few can blame the Chilean winger, who indeed pulled a great shift in the Sevilla frontline and was responsible for a barrage of attacks from the home side.

Sanchez’s own, though, originated from a penalty, which was won by Isaac Romero after Ronald Araujo had fouled him inside the box.

The referee had initially denied Sevilla a penalty, but the decision was overturned by VAR, which prompted an angry reaction from Araujo.
