Algeria fear a triple goalkeeping crisis after Luca Zidane suffered jaw and chin fractures with Granada, leaving his World Cup place in doubt. Deputy Anthony Mandrea is already ruled out, and Melvin Mastil is also sidelined.

The club said in a statement that the 27-year-old sustained a concussion against UD Almeria and subsequent tests showed fractures to his jaw and chin.

Zidane was injured during an aerial challenge, endured a heavy collision, lay on the turf for a long spell, then was taken off. He and the medical staff will decide on treatment in the coming hours.

Surgery could force Algeria’s first-choice, capped six times, to miss the 2026 World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Mandrea, of Caen, National, suffered a serious shoulder injury in April and will miss the tournament. Algeria are monitoring recently naturalised Melvin Mastil of Stade Nyonnais in the Swiss second division after an inguinal hernia in mid-April.
