The CBF named its squad on Monday 16 for friendlies against France and Croatia, and Lucas Paquetá was not included. Ancelotti used the unveiling to stress that absentees could still make the World Cup list, citing Paquetá as an example.

He said staff are monitoring the progress of all players and that those not selected now could feature in the final World Cup call-up. He added there is currently no player like Lucas Paquetá, who could easily have been in this squad.

He also highlighted the form of the two midfielders chosen, Danilo and Gabriel Sara, noting both are performing very well at Botafogo and Galatasaray in Türkiye.

Ancelotti’s list includes three Flamengo players, defenders Danilo and Léo Pereira and left-back Alex Sandro. Wesley of Roma and Vinícius Júnior of Real Madrid, both Flamengo academy products, are also in the group.

Brazil face France on 26 March at Gillette Stadium in Boston. They then meet Croatia on 31 March at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, also in the United States.
