Anthony Martial has re-emerged on Real Betis' radar as the club seek a striker to spell Cucho Hernández. According to La Colina De Nervion, the 30-year-old is a free agent after leaving Monterrey and is being assessed.
He previously spent the second half of 2021-22 at Sevilla on loan from Manchester United, signed on 25 January. Injuries limited him to 12 games, 673 minutes, one goal and one assist, the goal in a 3-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb on 17 February.
He never secured a regular place under Julen Lopetegui, alternating between centre forward and the left, and returned to United when the loan ended.
Martial joined Monterrey in September 2025 and later agreed to depart. He played 20 times for one goal and three assists, dislocating his right shoulder in February against León, with his final game in March against Cruz Azul in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Betis want another centre forward for a heavier calendar in LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. Cucho leads the line under Manuel Pellegrini, while Gonzalo Petit is bidding for a place after loans at Mirandés and Granada, though he could yet leave again.
Martial offers Premier League, LaLiga and European experience that fits Betis' brief, but his recent lack of continuity is a clear caveat. Any move would hinge on salary, contract length, commissions and fitness. A return to Seville, this time to Heliópolis, would be a footnote rather than the deciding factor.
