Anton Stach has been omitted from Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad, despite his ankle injury not being regarded as serious.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the cut is not considered serious and is believed to sideline him for only two or three weeks. Leeds head coach Daniel Farke is due to provide a full update before the West Ham United match on Friday afternoon.
The Leeds United midfielder suffered what appeared to be a laceration around his ankle during the win over Brighton and Hove Albion. After an awkward landing and tangle with an opponent, he received treatment, tried to continue, then was stretchered off as cameras showed heavy bleeding through his sock.
Julian Nagelsmann named his squad on Thursday morning.
Stach returned to the national set-up in March, playing 10 minutes in the 4-3 victory over Switzerland, his first Germany appearance since June 2022.
In his debut Premier League season he has been central to Leeds’ successful survival push, scoring five goals and supplying three assists. His physical presence, duel-winning, pressing and anticipation have underpinned the defensive side of Farke’s system, while his chance creation and set-piece delivery have lifted the attack.
On Tuesday night he attended the club’s awards on crutches and in a protective boot, though he could put weight on the ankle. He collected Goal of the Season for his audacious free-kick at Villa Park.
