Anton Stach reacts as Isaac Schmidt bids Leeds farewell and joins Young Boys | OneFootball

Isaac Schmidt has left Leeds United for BSC Young Boys on a four-year deal, ending a two-year spell after posting an emotional farewell that drew a response from Anton Stach.

According to yorkshireevenpost.co.uk, the fee was undisclosed but understood to be £2m, enough to avoid any book value loss.

Schmidt made 14 appearances during the 2024/25 Championship title-winning season, including two FA Cup starts, with all 12 league outings coming from the bench. Last summer he joined Werder Bremen on loan, with Premier League minutes at Leeds looking unlikely.

He was at Elland Road when automatic promotion was sealed and took part in the open-top bus parade through the city centre.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, he said he would never forget the pure emotions and team spirit shared with the club’s fans, wished everyone well for the future and signed off with MOT.

Messages poured in from team-mates. Largie Ramazani wished him luck and Willy Gnonto hailed him as his guy. Stach, a summer 2025 arrival who only linked up with Schmidt in pre-season, also sent his best, as did Joel Piroe, while Illan Meslier and Mateo Joseph commented. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Harry Gray liked the post.

Schmidt now joins Young Boys for pre-season. He is Leeds’ fourth summer departure, following free agents Karl Darlow and Meslier and Pascal Struijk’s £20m move to Brighton. One new signing, Harry Wilson, has been confirmed, with centre-back Tarik Muharemovic expected to follow.
