Arne Slot on Joe Gomez’s fitness and Alexander Isak’s recovery | OneFootball

Liverpool boss Arne Slot says Joe Gomez is a doubt for his side’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray.

Gomez did not train on Tuesday ahead of the round of 16 second leg at Anfield but Slot says the defender is going to try to feature as the Reds look to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

“Joe, we will decide that tomorrow,” Slot said. “He wasn’t ready to train today, he had too many issues after the last game, although he had issues already after the Galatasaray game.

“It wasn’t the plan to play him against Tottenham but unfortunately Ibou (Konate) had discomfort in his hamstring so we couldn’t take the risk of playing him, that’s why Joe had to play but it built up so much that now he’s a doubt for tomorrow.

“But he’s going to try tomorrow to see if he is available.”

Alexander Isak, meanwhile, is back on the pitch doing individual work but Slot says he still has plenty of steps left ahead of him before he can play.

“Alex is not available but the fact you see him on the pitch tells you that he’s getting closer and closer to joining us again,” Slot said.

“He will not be available for Saturday as well.

“If you’ve done four months of only individual sessions it’s quite a step up to train with the team and after you train with the team, it’s a step up to play at Premier League intensity or Champions League intensity.”
