Arne Slot offered an encouraging update on Alexander Isak’s recovery, yet confirmed the Liverpool record signing is not ready to return and faces at least another week out.
According to Goal.com, the 25-year-old Sweden forward has been out since December after surgery on a fractured left fibula and ankle damage. The injury followed a heavy challenge from Micky van de Ven during the 2-1 victory at Tottenham.
He has missed 20 matches and was pictured back on the grass at the AXA Training Centre this week, lifting hopes of an imminent comeback. Slot cautioned that he has not trained with the group, so competitive minutes remain some way off.
The manager said Isak will not feature on Wednesday or at Brighton on Saturday, adding that players must progress from months of individual work into full-contact sessions before they can be considered.
Liverpool sit fifth in the Premier League as a testing title defence draws to a close. They face the last-16 second leg against the side from Türkiye on Wednesday, trailing 1-0 on aggregate with work to do to reach the quarter-finals.
