Arsenal have agreed a £75 million deal with Newcastle United to sign captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazil international now set to undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

According to The Athletic, the two Premier League clubs have reached a compromise after lengthy negotiations, with Arsenal increasing their offer and Newcastle lowering their initial valuation. The agreed fee is a fixed £75m, with no add-ons included in the package.

Guimaraes has been granted permission to leave Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in Spain to finalise the transfer. The 28-year-old informed the Magpies earlier this summer of his desire to join Arsenal, paving the way for negotiations between the clubs.

The midfielder still has two years remaining on his Newcastle contract, although the move is now expected to be completed once the medical and remaining paperwork are finalised.

The deal will also benefit Guimaraes’ former club Lyon, who are entitled to 20 per cent of Newcastle’s profit from the transfer and are expected to receive between £6m and £7m.

Guimaraes joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and went on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders. During his time at St James’ Park, he made 153 league appearances, scoring 30 goals and providing 26 assists, while helping the club lift the Carabao Cup in 2025.

His departure marks another significant change for Newcastle during a summer of transition, with the club already reshaping its squad ahead of the new campaign.

For Arsenal, Guimaraes’ arrival represents another major addition as Mikel Arteta strengthens his title-winning squad for the season ahead.
