Arsenal have had another disappointing Premier League season. The club are already 11 points behind leaders Liverpool, having played one game less.
Barring a huge turnaround, the Gunners look set to miss out on the league title again. There should be plenty of spending this summer, and the focus could be on the attacking department.
A marquee striker is expected to be prioritised, but manager Mikel Arteta may also want a versatile attacker capable of playing across the frontline.
Sky Sport CH today claim that Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, who is poised to pursue a new challenge.
The Gunners have ‘taken information’ over his situation but have not yet undertaken concrete steps to secure his services, which the Reds have already begun.
The London giants have lacked sufficient attacking depth in the squad. They did not directly replace Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah after their transfers last summer.
The club also loaned out Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira. They only signed Raheem Sterling on loan to fill the void. Sterling has looked a shadow of himself at Arsenal.
There will be significant investment in the summer, and Lookman could be available for a bargain fee.
The 27-year-old has had another top season for Atalanta with 17 goals and seven assists from 29 outings.
The Nigerian star has had a fantastic shot-to-goal conversion rate of 22 percent this campaign.
He is valued at £46 million by Transfermarkt, but interested clubs could sign him for much less, given he will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer.
Liverpool are also admirers of the former Everton man, and the Gunners must be pro-active to secure his signature ahead of their Premier League rivals later this year.
