Aston Villa have made contact about signing Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Villains have lost Marcus Rashford, Marcos Asensio and Leon Bailey this summer and need to sign attackers to bolster the forward line.
The only attacking signing the club has made is Evann Guessand.
Villa have now turned to Nkunku as an option for the final week of the transfer window. He is available, and the Villains may be thinking of pouncing.
Nkunku bagged 15 goals and five assists last season as the Blues won the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup, attracting interest from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.
The Frenchman is versatile and can feature as a centre-forward, supporting striker, attacking midfielder, or winger.
That versatility will appeal to Villa manager Unai Emery following a difficult start to the season. They have picked up one point in two games.
The squad is crying out for strengthening, and the Villains must move swiftly.
Even though Nkunku is a ‘quality player who can score goals‘, Villa should think twice before trying to sign him.
His defensive application has often been questioned, and his recurring injuries at Chelsea make him a risky investment for a club in need of reliable options.
Villa cannot afford to sign another forward who struggles for fitness or contributes little without the ball.
Their focus should be on Nicolas Jackson, who offers pace, pressing and a direct goal threat that Villa currently lack.
Jackson’s ability to stretch defences and create openings would provide the spark this team is missing.
With resources limited and time running out, Villa must prioritise a striker who fits Emery’s system and can immediately impact their attack.
