Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen is poised for a permanent Roma stay, with the club said to have exercised a €25m option, according to Voetbal International.

The 27-year-old joined from Borussia Dortmund in January last year and enjoyed a decent spell under Unai Emery. He had scored seven times this season before heading out on loan a year after arriving.

Roma took him on an initial loan that included a purchase clause. In Italy he has delivered, hitting 12 goals across Serie A and the Europa League.

His contributions have helped the club secure a return to the Champions League.

If the option has been triggered, Malen will remain in Rome and his Villa stint will end little more than a season after it began.
