Aston Villa will shut the North Stand for the whole 2026-27 season as part of an accelerated Villa Park redevelopment, aiming to reopen a rebuilt stand for 2027-28 and lift capacity beyond 50,000. The oldest stand will be completely rebuilt.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Villa had planned a two-year build while keeping the stand open, but concerns over supporter experience and significant cost savings have prompted a one-season closure. Club chiefs believe any short-term matchday revenue loss will be recovered within 12 months of the new stand opening.
Next season’s capacity will drop to around 37,000. North Stand season ticket holders can renew elsewhere at the same price and will have priority for seats in the new stand the following campaign. The reduced capacity is likely to mean fewer season tickets for those on the waiting list, and no decision has been taken on price changes.
The redesigned stand will include enhanced dressing rooms plus new medical and physiotherapy areas for the men’s and women’s teams, along with upgraded broadcast facilities to meet Premier League and Uefa requirements.
Preparatory works have begun, with stripping of the current structure due to start next month after the final home match against Liverpool. The roof is set to be removed at the end of the summer, with the existing framework retained and refurbished. Villa have received assurances from Birmingham city council that Witton railway station’s expansion will be completed in time.
