Aston Villa return to Villa Park on Thursday night, aiming to continue their dominance on home soil.
Unai Emery’s side have won all five of their European home games in 2025. Furthermore, they have won 14 of their last 16 matches at Villa Park across all competitions. This fortress mentality will be key against a Young Boys side that has historically struggled in England.
The Swiss champions have failed to win on any of their six previous European visits to the country. With Villa sitting sixth in the Europa League table, a victory here would put them in a commanding position to secure a spot in the last 16.
Unai Emery is likely to shuffle his pack for this fixture. Ross Barkley, now eligible for the European squad, could be handed a rare start in midfield alongside youngster Lamare Bogarde. In attack, Donyell Malen is likely to replace Ollie Watkins as the central striker.
Malen has a good record in this competition, having scored 10 goals in 18 Europa League appearances. Meanwhile, Morgan Rogers, who scored a brace at the weekend, is expected to retain his place in the number 10 role. In defence, Victor Lindelof and Ian Maatsen are pushing for starts as Emery manages his squad’s workload.
Aston Villa predicted XI: Martinez; Lindelof, Konsa, Torres, Maatsen; Bogarde, Barkley; Guessand, Rogers, Sancho; Malen
The Europa League fixture will take place at Villa Park on Thursday, 27 November 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 5:45 pm GMT.
The match will air live in the UK on TNT Sports 2 and TNT Sports Ultimate. Coverage starts at 5:00 pm GMT.
