Atalanta are expected to send Ben Godfrey to Glasgow Rangers on loan with an option to buy after a failed €12.5m move from Everton.

It has been a very difficult time for the England international defender, who received two senior caps for his country in 2021.

Atalanta invested €12.5m to buy him from Everton in 2024, but he made no impact whatsoever in Bergamo.

Godfrey was an expensive Atalanta failure

Official: Sheffield United sign Ben Godfrey on a season-long loan deal from Atalanta.

There were loans to Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, and for the last six months at Brondby in Denmark.

According to Sky Sport Italia and the Daily Record, Godfrey is now on the verge of completing another loan move to Rangers.

This one will include an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the campaign.

The central defender only made five competitive appearances for Atalanta, totalling 93 minutes on the pitch.

Godfrey had some serious injuries during his career, including a ligament tear in his knee and a fractured leg in 2022.
