Athletic Club announce injury concern | OneFootball

La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Friday announced an ongoing issue on the personnel front in the club’s first-team ranks.

This comes amid confirmation that Álex Berenguer is dealing with a problem in his right big toe.

Midfielder Berenguer has for his part continued to play a leading role for Athletic Club over the early weeks of the new term.

Across the Basque outfit’s first seven fixtures, the 30-year-old has featured from the off in all but one.

As much, though, comes despite Berenguer having been struggling for fitness.

As per a statement across Athletic’s website and social media platforms on Friday:

‘Player Alex Berenguer has been suffering from traumatic arthritis in the metatarsophalangeal joint of his right big toe for approximately three weeks.

‘The discomfort has worsened in recent matches, and the medical team has finally decided that the player will train at a slower pace than his teammates.’

It is as of yet unclear if Berenguer will be given the medical green light to play his part against Villarreal on Saturday evening.
