Club Aurea reports that Atletico Madrid rejected an approach to sign Victor Osimhen this summer, with Julian Alvarez’s position viewed as a key obstacle. The Nigerian was offered for €75m and is willing to take a pay cut to play at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Osimhen, 27, is under contract at Galatasaray until the summer of 2029. He earns a strong wage that is boosted by Türkiye’s tax exemption for foreign residents in their first 20 years.

The striker has long admired Diego Simeone. After facing Atletico in the Champions League in January, he praised their attacking style and clear identity, adding that a draw with them suggested his team were on the right path.

Atletico lack the financial liquidity to complete a deal of this size at present. The role envisaged for Osimhen overlaps with Alvarez’s, and the club intend to keep the Argentine.

Osimhen was also offered to Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham. Spurs lodged an official bid of more than €55m, which Galatasaray rejected, as the Istanbul club are holding out for €75m.
