Atletico Madrid returns to La Liga action on Saturday with a home game against Athletic Club at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone’s side is still holding onto fourth place with 57 points from 32 matches, sitting seven points clear of Real Betis in fifth. However, their recent form has been worrying, as they’ve lost their last four league games — their worst run since 2021.
Atlético have lost seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, including a painful penalty shootout defeat to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final and a 3-2 loss away at Elche in their most recent league outing. Despite this dip, their strong home form — 13 wins from 16 matches — remains a big positive.
Simeone is dealing with several selection issues ahead of this match. Thiago Almada is suspended after being sent off against Elche, while José María Giménez is still out with a muscle injury. Dávid Hancko is also a doubt, even though he has returned to light training.
In attack, Ademola Lookman is sidelined with an adductor injury, although he could be back in time for the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal.
There is some good news, though, as Jan Oblak and Pablo Barrios have both returned, offering a boost to the squad.
Possible Atletico Madrid starting XI: Oblak; Bonar, Pubill, Lenglet, Diaz; Koke, Vargas; Simeone, Griezmann, Gonzalez; Alvarez
The match will kick off at 8pm BST on Saturday, 25th April.
For viewers in the UK, the match will be available to watch live on Disney+.
