Barcelona sporting director Deco has dropped what appeared to be a hint regarding the future return of a member of the club’s summer clearout.
The player in question? Jan Virgili.
Youngster Virgili for his part sealed a departure from Barcelona in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
As much came after the 19-year-old made the call to seek out first-team football, opting for a move to RCD Mallorca ahead of a season in Spain’s 4th tier with Barca Atlètic.
Virgili’s exit came as a blow to many of a Blaugrana persuasion, with the young winger considered a potential future star in the making.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest comments on the part of Deco are anything to go by, then a reunion between the parties down the line does not appear to have been at all ruled out.
Speaking during an interview with Brazilian outlet ‘Lance!‘ this week, Barca’s sporting director and transfer chief was drawn on the reasons behind Virgili’s sale.
And Deco, in his response, confirmed the club’s intention to keep a close eye on the player’s development, with a view to the potential future activation of Virgili’s buyback clause:
”I think everyone, every player, has their own ambitions. And every player has their own world. In Jan’s case (Virgili), he thought he wouldn’t get many opportunities in the first team this year. The B team, unfortunately, was relegated last season. He wanted to play. Mallorca showed a lot of interest in him too. So, we ended up making a deal. We’ll definitely be monitoring him, because we have the means to buy him back. We have the right to bring him back, if we want, in the future. And, in the end, it was his decision.”
