FC Barcelona are watching Sergi Dominguez’s future closely, with Lazio now showing serious interest in the former La Masia defender.
The 21-year-old left Barca last summer to join Dinamo Zagreb for €1.2 million and has since grown into an important player in Croatia.
According to SPORT, new Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso wants Dominguez as part of his defensive rebuild in Rome.
The Italian club have already made an opening offer worth around €5 million plus variables, but Dinamo rejected it and are asking for at least €10 million.
Barcelona are not planning to bring Dominguez back, but the club still have a financial interest in the operation.
When he was sold to Dinamo, Barca kept 20 percent of the profit from a future transfer. If Lazio or another club pay close to €10 million, the Catalan club could earn around €2 million.
That would not be a huge amount in normal circumstances, but for Barcelona’s current financial planning, every extra income helps.
Tottenham have also contacted Dinamo to ask about the defender, which could push the price higher. That would benefit Dinamo, but also Barca.
For supporters, this is a reminder of why future-sale clauses matter. Not every academy player can stay, but smart exits can still bring value later.
Dominguez left quietly, developed well, and may now take another step in Serie A or the Premier League. If that happens, Barcelona will be rewarded for protecting part of his future upside.
His story is also a reminder that not every La Masia success story has to come at Barcelona, and sometimes the best decision is to leave the club and move elsewhere.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sergi Dominguez.
