Barcelona have big plans for the summer transfer window, which officially opens for business at the start of next month. They want to add at least one new defender and star striker to the already-confirmed signing of Anthony Gordon, while there are also efforts being made for a goalkeeper to arrive as competition for starter Joan Garcia.
Wojciech Szczesny acted as Garcia’s backup during the 2025-26 season, and although he is highly-regarded within Can Barca, there was a notice drop-off when he played compared to the former Espanyol goalkeeper. Because of this, plans are being put in place for the Polish veteran to drop down to third in the pecking order, something that he would be comfortable with.
Sporting director Deco has already lined up the perfect candidate to come in and be Barcelona’s new backup: Alex Remiro. Talks have taken place with the Real Sociedad goalkeeper’s representatives over the last few months, and according to Sport, there is a strong desire to sign him this summer, given that a deal can be done for as little as €8m.
La Real are prepared to cash in on Remiro, whose contract ends in 2027. Both Deco and head coach Hansi Flick are in agreement that the La Real goalkeeper should be signed now, but before a move can be made, outgoings are needed.

It order for Remiro to be brought to the Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona must move on at least one of their goalkeepers. The aforementioned Szczesny has chances to leave by the way of a unilateral termination clause in his contract, but for now, there is more of a desire to part ways with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who continues to have no place in Flick’s plans.
The Germany international’s exit would free up a significant space in Barcelona’s wage bill, which would make it easier for Remiro and other signings to be registered. As such, the La Real man must be on standby while moves are made for ter Stegen to depart.
