The future of Robert Lewandowski at Barcelona remains one of the most delicate issues facing the club.
Although the striker continues to be an important figure in the squad, there is still no certainty over what happens next, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.
Now, a fresh report from SPORT has shed more light on the situation, revealing the conditions Barcelona are prepared to put forward if Lewandowski is to stay.
From a sporting point of view, there is a strong belief that the natural evolution of the squad, combined with Lewandowski’s age, means his role must change.
Notably, Barcelona do not question his quality or his value, but they feel the time has come for a more managed use of the striker across the season.
Rather than being an unassailable starter, the idea is for Lewandowski to become a strategic asset, deployed according to the demands of matches and competitions.
The club see him as someone who can still decide games, but within a structure that relies more on rotation and flexibility.

This proposed change in sporting status is only one part of the discussion and the real obstacle lies in the financial side of the deal.
At present, Lewandowski represents a high cost on Barcelona’s wage bill, with his gross salary amounting to around €26 million per season.
Understandably, the board believe that his continuity is only possible if his contract is adapted to reflect his new role within the team.
In practical terms, Barcelona are asking the striker to accept a salary reduction of close to half of his current earnings.
This demand has already caused some resistance from the player’s camp, who are reluctant to agree to such a substantial cut.
From their perspective, Lewandowski remains a proven goal scorer at the highest level and believes his financial and sporting status should reflect that.
Naturally, the next move now belongs to Lewandowski.
