Barcelona and Real Madrid are experiencing a tense relationship after multiple clashes, open statements and accusations in public being drawn about each other.
Los Blancos bear a brunt of the responsibility for the same, especially with the president Florentino Perez openly lashing out at Barcelona and accusing them openly of manipulating referees and results through the Negreira scandal.
Barcelona, understandably, have not remained silent and have gone on the offensive as well, with Joan Laporta openly coming out to hit back at Perez during the Christmas dinner last night.
Speaking on El Partidazo de COPE in a recent interview (h/t SPORT), former Barcelona presidential candidate and pre-candidate for the upcoming election Victor Font gave his views on the situation between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
He began by agreeing with Joan Laporta for a change and admitting that Real Madrid are blatantly in the wrong.
“I agree one hundred per cent with what the president of Barça has said, and I even go much further,” he said.
“The Barcelona fans feel deeply offended when Florentino Perez questions the recent history of FC Barcelona and that of what has been the best team in the history of football.”
“And that this comes from the president of the club that accumulates more suspicions about titles in the entire history of football seems, simply, regrettable to us,” he added on Perez.
Elaborating on what he meant by suspicious titles for Real Madrid, Font said:
“The data indicates it. I don’t know how many listeners know that, during the 20th century, ten presidents of the Technical Committee of Referees had a historic relationship with Real Madrid: they were members and even former players of the club.”
“He didn’t pay them, but there was a spectacular conflict of interest. You have to talk with data,” he added.

Citing a more recent example to prove his point, the presidential candidate said: “The last president of the CTA, Jose Plaza, was in office for 23 years. How many titles did Barça win with him and how many did Real Madrid win? Thirteen to two.”
“And during the first five years of payments to Negreira, how many titles did Barça win? Nothing,” he added.
Font then elaborated on how it is ridiculous to question the achievements of one of the best teams of all time just because of some payments from the club offices.
“The facts say that the best team in history is being questioned, a team that won on the field and whose recognition is unanimous throughout the world. The payments have nothing to do with a supposed influence on the referees,” he remarked.
“What is being discussed is whether the payment to the number two of the arbitration system for a series of years had some kind of impact or not.
“But what is really relevant, is our indignation with the president of Real Madrid for accusing Barça of winning thanks to the referees,” he added
Font then began to lash out at Perez and claimed that it is ridiculous for the Real Madrid president to question Barcelona for a time when his men simply could not keep up with the Catalans.
“He doubts years of competition in which Barça was clearly superior to Real Madrid because he is unable to recognise that for a long time we were better.”
“And he does it as a smokescreen at a time when his sports project is a failure, the Super League is too, and he has problems with the Santiago Bernabeu, after three years of silence,” he added.
The presidential candidate for the upcoming election then listed out what he saw to be the fitting response to Real Madrid’s new stance and how he must openly denounce Real Madrid.
“You don’t defend the club with words. The president of Barça should stop making grand statements and act: denounce Real Madrid and Real Madrid TV, which are adulterating the competition.”
“There is an obvious conflict of interest when the delegate of Real Madrid, Mejia Davila, has his wife in the CTA in a relevant position. Defending the club is acting, not just talking,” he added.

Urging Laporta to accelerate on mediating the situation and demanding the respect the club be respected, Font said,
“Right now, I would tell you that I would ask the president of Real Madrid for a rectification and if not, he would break relations. It seems to me unacceptable cynicism to want to damage the reputation of a club like Barça.”
Towards the end of his interview, Laporta’s rival lashed out at the Barcelona president for siding with Real Madrid and prioritising the Super League over Barcelona and Lionel Messi.
“Screaming and talking do not defend the club. Throughout the mandate, he has gone hand in hand with Florentino Perez, and that is the mess that we denounced from the first day.”
“A few months after reaching the presidency, Joan Laporta had to make a key decision: renew the best player in history or align with the Super League and Florentino Perez,” he added.
“And given that dilemma, he chose Florentino and the Super League before Messi’s renewal,” he concluded on that topic.
Finally, Font spoke on the radical stance Barcelona must adopt, both on the field and off the field.
“Since then, Barça has gone hand in hand with Florentino and has received advice from people of their utmost trust. It is unacceptable that now, a few months before the elections, a radically different discourse is adopted,” said Font.
“Here it’s not about shouting, it’s about acting. That’s why I claim and demand that FC Barcelona really act. The club must denounce Real Madrid TV for the production and dissemination of videos that end up adulterating the competition,” he concluded.
