Barcelona target €20 million-rated Borussia Dortmund full-back as potential Jules Kounde backup – Report | OneFootball

With the additions made during last summer’s transfer window, FC Barcelona once again have a strong squad capable of competing for all major titles this season. Most positions on the pitch are well-covered, often with more than one option available.

The one exception is the right-back position. Jules Kounde is the undisputed starter, but the squad currently lacks a natural backup. Eric Garcia has filled in when needed, yet his versatility as a center-back and defensive midfielder limits his ability to cover Kounde consistently.

In this context, Sky Germany (via Mundo Deportivo) reports that Barcelona are exploring options for an affordable and reliable cover for the French international.

The €20 miilion-rated Norwegian right-back Julian Ryerson, who plays for Borussia Dortmund and can also operate on the left, is reportedly on their radar. The 28-year-old has a contract with Dortmund until 2028 and brings valuable international experience.

Sky Germany adds that Barcelona and Dortmund have already held preliminary discussions, although no agreement has been reached so far.

Both the club and the player are open to a move, with a summer transfer being the preferred window rather than the upcoming winter market. Ryerson previously faced Barcelona twice last season in Champions League matches, highlighting his experience at a high level.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will continue pursuing him and make a move for him or look for another candidate for this position.
