According to SPORT, Roony Bardghji has won the battle over Marcus Rashford for a spot in the FC Barcelona starting lineup against Real Madrid tomorrow.
As per the report, manager Hansi Flick is satisfied with what he has seen from the youngster in the absence of Lamine Yamal and is likely to back him in the Clasico.
Roony has been the preferred starter on the right flank in Barcelona’s last couple of matches against Getafe and Osasuna.
While he did well after coming on as a substitute in the match before against Celta Vigo, the Swedish international’s displays dipped somewhat at the Coliseum and El Sadar, although he still created a good opportunity in both games.
In both matches, there was a sense that Roony struggled somewhat with the pressure of replacing Lamine Yamal while occupying the exact same role.
Meanwhile, Rashford, who came on as a substitute and played on the right, gave a good account of himself even though he is not entirely comfortable on that flank.
However, the fact that Roony is far more comfortable on the right than Rashford, the defensive support he can offer his right-back against Vinucius Jr., and the possibility of exposing Fran Garcia with his pace and dribbling appear to weigh heavily in Flick’s thinking.
Bardghji is expected to occupy the right-wing role in a Barcelona front three that would also include Robert Lewandowski and Fermin Lopez.
While Fermin’s position on the left was never in doubt, Lewandowski is facing stiff competition from Ferran Torres for the No. 9 position.
However, the veteran striker is enjoying his coach’s trust in recent matches and would be making his third consecutive La Liga start.
