FC Bayern are interested in signing Givairo Read – but now the transfer battle for the right-back from Feyenoord Rotterdam is apparently becoming much more complicated.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are also about to enter the poker game. The English club have put the 19-year-old on their shortlist and are keen to sign a new right-back in January.
This means that the German record champions will have competition from a club that is one of the absolute best in the world, both financially and in sporting terms. For Bayern, the new competitor comes at an inopportune time – as Read has long been regarded internally as the ideal solution for the right side of defence.
According to Sky, Munich are already in advanced talks with Read’s entourage, with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund seeing the Dutch U21 international as an ideal transfer for the future.
Read is a regular at Feyenoord and has a contract until 2029, which will make the deal expensive. His current market value is around 20 million euros – in reality, however, Feyenoord are probably thinking more in the region of 30 to 40 million, especially now that the top clubs from the Premier League have taken notice.

The fact that Pep Guardiola’s club is now entering the poker game makes things tricky. City has enormous financial resources at its disposal and has also identified the position as a construction site. For Bayern, this means that the competition is getting tougher and the price could rise.
Another crucial point: Bayern need a budget. Internally, Boey is likely to leave in the winter in order to create space in the squad and financial leeway. A sale of the Frenchman would be important precisely because Read will not come cheap.
