Bayern Munich are weighing a move for Benfica centre-back Tomás Araújo after a standout season, and the 24-year-old will represent Portugal at the World Cup.
According to Glorioso 1904, the six-time European champions have tracked him for a year and are seriously considering him for their defence. Bayern are not expected to part with Raphael Guerreiro.
He is seen as a viable option if Kim Min-Jae or Hiroki Ito leave, and the South Korean may be on his way to Juventus.
Cost is a factor, as Araújo is regarded as more accessible than other defensive targets, particularly on salary.
Benfica consider him a key asset. He is under contract until 2029 with an €80 million release clause, and Rui Costa’s board could seek around €40 million given limited centre-backs and his World Cup call-up.
Last season he made 39 appearances for Benfica, 23 in Liga Portugal Betclic, nine in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in Liga Portugal Meu Super. Across 2,795 minutes, he recorded one goal and two assists.
