FC Bayern officially kicked off preseason training on Monday with performance tests. The focus now is on drilling the fundamentals for the new season. Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry, who were recently injured, are still in the process of getting back into shape.

Neither will be at 100% when training begins. However, there is general confidence that the two offensive players will be able to return to action soon.

Internally, there is a clear comeback plan for both players, which is now being followed diligently.

Karl and Gnabry: Here’s the timeline

Both are now set to be brought back to their peak form step by step. Lennart Karl, who suffered a thigh muscle injury during World Cup preparations and had to withdraw from the tournament, will, according to BILD, continue individual training for about another week before he can rejoin team training.

If everything goes according to plan, this step is scheduled for the training camp at Tegernsee at the end of July. He would then continue his recovery during team training. A comeback for Bayern against RB Leipzig in the Telekom Cup on August 15 would then be realistic.

It has already been 13 weeks since Gnabry suffered a torn adductor muscle in his right thigh. He recently seemed to be a bit further along in his rehab than Karl, but the team remains cautious here as well and does not want to risk a setback.

For this reason, he is still avoiding tackles and quick turns—that is, movements that place a high strain on the adductor area.

However, there is also great confidence that Gnabry will be fully fit by the Super Cup on August 22 against Borussia Dortmund at the latest. That would particularly please head coach Vincent Kompany, who would then have two more options in the squad for the start of the season.
