As such, Schjelderup, who is enjoying an impressive campaign with SL Benfica, is being closely monitored by the La Liga champions.

Benfica weighing up renewal for Schjelderup

Now, according to A Bola (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Benfica are considering offering Schjelderup a new contract with improved terms.

The 21-year-old Norwegian international’s current contract expires in 2028, and the Portuguese heavyweights intend to extend it until 2031 and secure his future at the club.

So far this season, Schjelderup has managed to score seven and assist four goals from 36 appearances in all competitions. This includes strikes against the likes of Real Madrid and Porto.

On top of that, the winger scored his first goal for the Norwegian national team against the Netherlands in a friendly match during the ongoing international break.

Although Schjelderup was close to being sold to Club Brugge in January, Benfica now celebrate having retained him and wish to extend his contract.

On being asked about the rumours of interest from Barcelona recently, Schjelderup had said: “I did not know. It would be fantastic if it is true.”

For now, there is nothing beyond tentative interest from the Blaugrana, while the winger is also attracting the attention of some other clubs in Europe. It has seemingly prompted Benfica into considering renewing his contract until 2031.
