Bernardo Silva revealed the City players always knew that they needed to come away from Anfield with three points following our dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Liverpool.
Dominik Szoboszlai struck first for the hosts after 74 minutes, before captain Bernardo levelled 10 minutes later.
Erling Haaland had the final say, stroking in from the penalty spot three minutes into stoppage time to complete a remarkable and dramatic comeback at Anfield.
After the equaliser, instead of celebrating with the joyous away fans, the skipper ran to collect the ball and made his way back to the centre circle, signalling his and City’s intent to grab a winner.
Bernardo confirmed this mentality was in the squad’s minds prior to the game, knowing a win would take us back to six points behind league-leaders Arsenal and keep us alive in the title race.
“Obviously coming here, for me it’s the toughest place in the Premier League by far. And usually for most teams a draw is not a bad result but we needed another goal. When I scored I was happy but we needed another one. Erling got us that one,” he began.

“I feel the whole team knew before the game, if we lost then probably the title race was over. We felt like we needed to win the game.
“That puts us a bit closer. The hope is there. We’re going to fight until the end. Six points is still six points. We’re happy but we need to keep doing our job.
“Obviously we’re very happy. But these points count as much as any other points in other game that we slipped. It was frustrating in the beginning of the year because in my opinion we didn’t do our job properly. We could have been closer to Arsenal.”
Anfield has proved to be a difficult destination for City, with this win being only our third success at Anfield since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, and Bernardo was pleased to finally get a victory at the venue in front of fans after a long wait.
“Today I’m very happy because it’s the toughest place to come to in England,” he continued.
“To get the first win here in nine seasons apart from the covid year, you can imagine how tough it is to win here.
“I’m really happy.”
