French football correspondent Santi Aouna dropped a big update in the last few hours. He revealed that Turkish giants Besiktas have started a serious push to recruit three Premier League players. They want to finalise these deals before the January window shuts.

Besiktas consider a late raid for Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor

The Istanbul-based club have their sights set on Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor. They are also pursuing West Ham United duo Alphonse Areola and Tomáš Souček. This spending spree follows Besiktas’ recent decision to let Tammy Abraham head back to Aston Villa for £18 million. That move left a vacancy in their attack and provided funds to reinvest.

Aouna indicated that discussions are already underway. The Black Eagles are keen to capitalise on West Ham’s shaky spot near the relegation zone. They are testing the Hammers’ resolve to keep their experienced assets.

West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo views Areola and Souček as vital. He proved this by starting both in the recent 3-1 victory over Sunderland. However, the Turkish club might believe a lucrative offer might tempt the Londoners. Simultaneously, Besiktas might view Isidor as a direct replacement for Abraham. They hope to talk the forward into leaving the Stadium of Light with the promise of European football and a title challenge in the Süper Lig.

What should the Black Cats do?

Wilson Isidor’s situation at Sunderland presents a real tough choice for the Black Cats. The French forward played a huge part in Sunderland’s promotion campaign during the 2024/25 season. Since then, he has found the step up to the Premier League demanding.

As of January 27, 2026, the French centre-forward has netted just four times in 20 appearances across all competitions. His hard work is still clear to see. However, the 25-year-old’s goal return has not matched the high numbers he hit in the Championship.

The French striker often looks isolated against elite defences. He struggles to convert the few chances that come his way in the top flight. However, he remains Sunderland’s most mobile attacking outlet. Selling Isidor now poses a massive risk. The club sit mid-table but not mathematically safe. Losing a recognised striker without an upgrade could derail their season.

Unless Besiktas offer a fee significantly above his market value, Sunderland should reject the advances. Isidor knows the system and holds the dressing room’s respect. He also offers tactical continuity. Disrupting the squad harmony this late in the window for a modest profit would be a big mistake. Sunderland must prioritise survival and stability over balancing the books in the short term.
