New details have emerged regarding Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town’s rearranged fixture.

The Tractor Boys initially made the trip to Ewood Park on Saturday, September 20, in what was both sides’ sixth match of the season.

Intense wind and weather warnings had been delivered on that date, and such adverse conditions ultimately ruled the game unplayable.

Just 10 minutes from time, referee Stephen Martin deemed the pitch unplayable due to extreme rain, which was of severe frustration to Blackburn, who held a 1-0 advantage over an Ipswich side down to 10 men.

It was subsequently decided by the EFL that the fixture would be replayed in full, much to the dismay of all those involved with Rovers. Recently, it was revealed that the rearranged match will take place on Tuesday, December 2.

Alongside this, both teams have offered supporters who attended the original clash the option to buy half-price tickets, whilst Blackburn fans with a pre-existing season ticket or seasonal hospitality package won’t need to part with any additional costs.

These decisions have caused quite a stir among the Rovers fanbase, who aren’t happy for a number of reasons.

Immediately after revealing these new details, Blackburn Rovers came under a lot of flak for a number of reasons.

Some supporters chose to take aim at the fact that they would have to purchase another ticket, despite not enjoying the entire product they had signed up for the first time around.

“This is bang out of order,” exclaimed one Rovers fan. “So, I never got the product I payed for as the result never concluded, now I can't attend the replay dates so I have essentially payed for nothing?

Another commented: “Sorry, but for those who had purchased their ticket for that day like I did ,should automatically have received another (free) ticket for the same game, quite simple really, bad call on your behalf this ! I won't pay again sorry....”

Frustration also surrounded the fact that the game was being played on a Tuesday night in December, which would naturally see a much colder climate and potential risk for a frozen pitch.

“It would be typical rover's luck if the game had to be abandoned because of a frozen pitch,” stated a Blackburn supporter. “However, the more likely result is we're going to lose the match a match which should have been replayed only for the leftover minutes. Descraceful.”

“It’ll probably be frozen that day lol,” chimed in a Preston North End fan, clearly enjoying the situation Rovers have found themselves in.

Blackburn Rovers will be conscious of avoiding a nightmare Ipswich Town scenario

Given the disparity between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town in terms of squad quality, a victory for the Ewood Park outfit would’ve been an excellent result.

Since the match was abandoned, the East Lancashire outfit have picked up just one point from their following three second-tier outings, which highlights how important it would’ve been for some to dispatch the Tractor Boys.

After all the drama that followed the match, Rovers will be slightly fearful of the fact that they have to face Ipswich again and the prospect of losing to Kieran McKenna’s side is an extremely plausible one.

This would cap off supporters’ outrage and mean the match being abandoned had turned into a total nightmare for Blackburn. Therefore, Valerien Ismael and Co. have all the motivation they need to stop this from happening and gain back some much-needed credit with their fans.
