Chelsea have been hollowed out by their new owners, and there is little connection between the club and their fans now.

The effects of the BlueCo ownership on Chelsea on the pitch are very obvious. The Blues are struggling once again to get into the Champions League, are cycling through managers and players, and look miles away from winning a major trophy.

The effects off the pitch are less obvious, but just as damaging. Supporters almost universally agree they feel less “connected” to their team than they did in the past. In in interview with the Sun, Joe Cole spoke about a chat he had had with a supporter who compared the current players with those of the past.

Chelsea fans have no connection with their club or players now

“He said there was a response to the losing games, and more engagement with the fans,” Cole said.

“He used Shevchenko as an example; he came in and had a terrible time, but the fans could see he was trying.

£He was humble, and every time they sang Shevchenko’s name, he acknowledged them. For a Ballon d’Or winner who’s having a difficult time, they still remembered that more than 15 years later. It’s the little things that I think the group need to take charge of, but no senior players are leading that at the club.£
