Agustín Marchesín has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ruling the Boca goalkeeper out for months.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the injury occurred during the Copa Libertadores match against Barcelona of Ecuador at La Bombonera, when he felt sharp pain during a visiting attack and requested a substitution. He was replaced by Leandro Brey and left the pitch in tears.

Medical tests subsequently confirmed the diagnosis.

The setback will keep him out for the rest of the season, a major blow with a congested schedule that includes the imminent Superclásico against River Plate at the Estadio Más Monumental and further international fixtures.

He will undergo surgery in the coming days under Doctor Jorge Pablo Batista, Boca’s long-serving and renowned medic. Batista is regarded as an authority in such procedures and has successfully operated on several club players with the same ligament injury.
