Bournemouth and Newcastle United played out a forgettable 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium, with neither side able to muster much quality in front of goal.
The Cherries, enjoying their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign, began brightly and looked the more likely in the early stages.
David Brooks created space down the right and teed up Tyler Adams, whose fierce low strike was kept out by Nick Pope’s boot. That, however, turned out to be Bournemouth’s only effort on target until the dying moments.
Newcastle, operating with a back three, also threatened early on when Jacob Murphy wriggled free at the near post, but Djordje Petrovic blocked well. From then on, though, chances for the visitors were almost non-existent.
Record signing Nick Woltemade felt he should have had a penalty after being tugged by Bafodé Diakité in the second half, but the referee waved play on.
Tempers flared late on when home supporters were incensed at the sight of Malick Thiaw avoiding a second yellow after clattering Ryan Christie on the edge of the box.
Substitute Justin Kluivert then came closest to snatching it for Bournemouth deep into stoppage time, only for Pope to beat away his free-kick.
In truth, it was a scrappy contest short on excitement, with the first effort on target of the second half not arriving until the 91st minute.
The draw leaves Newcastle sitting 13th in the table, while Andoni Iraola's side climb into third - though they could slip back to fourth if Arsenal get the better of Manchester City later on.
